Our team at the Festival of Science in Split
This year, our participation in the Festival of Science in Split took the form of a three-part lecture entitled "Time as an incentive for sculpture."
During the lecture, we presented the Crosculpture project to the public (full name: Manifestations of Modern Sculpture in Croatia: Sculpture on the Crossroads Between Socio-political Pragmatism, Economic Possibilities and Aesthetical Contemplation; IP-2016-06-2112; fully funded and supported by the Croatian Science Foundation).
Along with explaining the basic characteristics of the project and its fundamental research goals, we presented the public with the present state of the research on modern sculpture in Croatia.
After this introduction, we proceeded with the main part of the lecture; that is to say the three lectures of our three team members: Dalibor Prančević, Božo Kesić and Dora Derado. The lectures dealt with specific examples of sculptural experiments in the 20th century which carry with them an undeniable avantgarde, or neoavantgarde foretoken. We discussed the sculptural research of Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916) and the premise of the emergence of Futurist sculpture. We then touched upon the radical redefinitions of the institution of art and the artistic procedures of Marcel Duchamp as well as the polyvalent values of the artistic creations that emerged in the 60s in Italy under the collective term "arte povera".
All in all, it was a very productive and enticing day for our team members and their public!
